We Will Continue Combating Climate Change
Through its support for sustainable development and the work it carries out with a responsible banking approach, Development and Investment Bank of Türkiye received an A- score in the Climate Change Programme of CDP, the world’s largest environmental reporting platform.
Development and Investment Bank of Türkiye received an A- score in the Climate Change Programme of CDP, which holds the world’s largest corporate climate-change, water and forest-risk data, with more than 9,000 companies reporting globally. Through the report submitted under CDP’s Climate Change Programme, Development and Investment Bank of Türkiye disclosed how it assesses and manages its activities, risks and opportunities relating to combating climate change, which is the most fundamental element of its sustainability approach.
Commenting on the matter, TKYB CEO İbrahim Öztop said: “As Development and Investment Bank of Türkiye, for 46 years we have conducted all our activities with a focus on sustainability, considering both today and tomorrow and acting in accordance with international standards. Since 2016, we have participated in the Climate Change Programme, under which companies voluntarily disclose their greenhouse-gas emissions and climate-change strategies to the public. We are proud to have received an A- score from CDP, one of the most effective reporting platforms in combating climate change, and to have been included among CDP Türkiye’s 2020 Climate Leaders. It is extremely important to us that our work is valued and recognised internationally in the field of sustainability.”
Stating that, in addition to work carried out to reduce the environmental impact of internal Bank activities, the Bank monitors every financed project with the same level of care, Öztop said: “We subject every project we support with funds or loans to an environmental and social risk-assessment process, regardless of sector, amount or investment location. We also monitor projects for environmental and social risks throughout the term of the loan. Through the projects we have financed to date, we have prevented approximately three million tonnes of carbon-dioxide emissions per year—equivalent to the impact created by 120 million mature trees. This year, we also qualified to receive the Turkish Standards Institution’s Climate-Friendly Organisation Certificate. We are one of the founding signatories of the Principles for Responsible Banking, developed by the United Nations Environment Programme Finance Initiative (UNEP FI) to increase the banking sector’s impact on a sustainable future. With the same sensitivity, we will continue combating climate change by using our resources in the most appropriate way. Through the financial support we provide, we will work with all our strength to accelerate our country’s transition to a low-carbon economy.”
